Project: Channel Islands Boating Instruction & Safety Center, Oxnard, California
Client: deZignsKapes LLC Exhibit Designer
Project Phases: Design through Fabrication

Project Background:
As described by the Channel Islands Boating Instruction & Safety Center (BISC), the exhibits designed for the Center are outdoors near the lobby entrance, inside the building in the lobby area, and upstairs in the multipurpose rooms. The purpose of the exhibits is to provide users of the building with educational information about the Santa Barbara Channel, the Channel Islands themselves, the unique wildlife and marine life in this area, the protections in place for these species, and the historic use of this area by native populations (primarily Chumash), shippers, and others.

Challenge:
Exhibit designer deZignsKapes worked with It’s Alive Co. to fulfill a need for technology design to be implemented in the new facility. The design must fit the tight budget, and needed to cover AV system design and exhibit lighting design.

It's Alive Co.

Solution:
It’s Alive Co. provided AV system design, AV integration management, and lighting design. The AV system was based on a basic BGM (back ground music) system that utilized a 70V distributed array of overhead speakers, along with point source audio for use with the media system in the conference rooms. Paging was integrated into the system design aswell. Lighting design consisted of select locations of track for lighting pin spot heads with flexibility for changing exhibits.
